Follow These 6 Steps After You’ve Been In A Car Collision

Collisions happen, and while they can be frightening in the moment, most don’t result in injuries. In the United States, there were nearly 6 million crashes in 2013, and 70 percent caused no injuries at all; the numbers are likely similar in Canada. Even if your car has been damaged, it’s not the end of the world, and it’s important to remain calm. Here at the 6 steps you should take after you’ve been in a collision.

#1 Check That Everyone Is Okay

After a vehicle collision, your number one priority is to check for injuries. Check with your passengers, check yourself (you may be in shock), and then check on the other driver and passengers in their vehicle. If anyone is injured, dial emergency services right away.

#2 Call The Police Or File A Report

If no one has been injured and/or the damage to the vehicles look to be less than $2000, you don’t need to call the police, according to the government of Ontario. (If you suspect the other driver may be driving under the influence, call the police and follow the emergency operator’s instructions.) Instead, exchange information and report the accident at the soonest available opportunity. You can download an Accident Worksheet here, but you should immediately record as many details about the accident as possible, even on your phone.

 #3 Take Photos

Before you go, make sure you take as many photos as you can of the scene. These can be used to help determine who was responsible for the collision.

 #4 Call The Insurance Company

Once you’ve taken photos, called the police, or mutually determined that you only need to report the accident, it’s time to call the insurance company. It’s important to do this promptly; your insurance company will help pay for repairs. We work closely with insurance companies at Colony Ford Brampton to repair vehicles that have been in collisions and do everything we can to take the stress out of your situation.

#5 Call Your Colony Ford Brampton Service Centre

Now that your insurance company has been informed, give us a call so that we can start putting the pieces back together. From easy towing to our dealership to partnerships with rental car companies, your Ford dealership in Brampton is here for you in an emergency.

When your vehicle has been in a collision, you may be looking for Ford parts to get your vehicle up and running again. We handle everything, from parts to service – just tell us what you need.

#6 Look Into New Or Pre Owned Ford Options

Of course, if it’s been a major accident and your vehicle is undrivable, or it was already old and it’s not worth the repairs, you may be unexpectedly in the market for a different vehicle. Because accidents are always surprises, you may be fully prepared financially to take on a new vehicle. We’ll help you get into an affordable, reliable pre owned car if that’s the case. We also have generous financing options at Colony Ford Brampton and we can help you get back on the road. We know how important it is that you can drive to work and school, pick up the kids, and even get to the grocery store.
